Let’s Dive into the State of the Word 2023 Recap!

Many of us tuned into one of the highlights of the year for the WordPress CommunityState of the Word! Here’s the State of the Word 2023 Recap!

WordPress Playground

There was a nice highlight video of the WordPress Playground. This is a super cool project that allows to utilize a browser to load dependencies that WordPress requires to run and test development. I’ve tried this and it’s a super neat tool with so much to offer and also offers a tremendous learning opportunity.

2024 Theme

The WordPress 2024 theme runs on the WordPress Gutenberg editor and takes advantage of many integrated features such as reusable block and patterns to make quickly building and modifying commonly utilized sections and features easier.

Integration with the existing custom fields system was discussed as well as UI elements to make utilizing custom fields easy when working with posts and page content.

AI and Gutenberg

The many facets of AI and how having a virtiual AI “helper” there side by side with you as you’re producing content drew quite a bit of attention and experimentation with this was discussed.

WordCamp 2024 Location Released

WordCamp 2024 will be in Portland, Oregon September 16 – 19, 2024 and consist of two conference days and two contributor days. This interests me as due to some personal reasons, I had to miss the last WordCamp that was located right in San Diego, CA. I was also one of the WordCamp Organizers for our regional WordCamp that unfortunately had to be cancelled (as well as most others) during Covid, so really looking forward to trying to make it to this one.
